Okay, today was a horrible day. Well not perfectly horrible in every way but delightfully horrible in a few ways at least. I'm in a very precarious position at work which is slightly stressful to say the least. Of course, I love being set up to be a bright and shining hero but the shit I'm wading through to get that gold star medallion seems a little unfortunate for the reward. Oh well, I'm a good person anyway so I'm doing what needs to be done.
Anyway, the day was stressful yes but that's not what I consider to be a horrible day. What I mean to judge as the cause of horribleness is more around the self care stuff. Today was a disaster as far as successful self care actions go. It's a good thing I'm blogging so I can at least mark one thing off of my list. No, that's not true, blogging would be the second thing. I also did my morning gratitude stuff.
Here's how my day went. I packed my meals for the day knowing it was going to be a tad bit challenging already. I was ready with a plan of course. Oatmeal and raisins for breakfast. Left over wish-I-was-spicy beef stuff with brown rice for lunch. An apple, creamy swiss, and wheat thins for snack. Got to work, made myself a cup of green tea and it sat all day and got cold because I was running around gathering information like a mad woman trying to learn my manager's business in a matter of hours when he's had 2 years to learn it and still hasn't quite figured it out yet.
Needless to say, I didn't get my oatmeal made or eaten let alone drink my tea or any water for that matter. I did manage to grab a cranberry scone from the kitchen in mid stride on my way from one meeting to another while my flat-ironed hair blew in the wake of my speed.
Then, there was a farewell party for a team member who recently departed and I was required to attend. I seriously had no time to do it but I agreed and made an appearance for 30mins. I downed a Mac n Jack's and headed back to the office for another covert meeting to gather delicate information from a member of the leadership team.
From there, it was straight down the hall to visit Queen Bee and tattle all the wonderful factoids I'd gathered so far that day which ran directly into another meeting to discuss other business problems and potential solutions for "project budget clean up". That meeting ran up until it was time to pack up and head out.
Off to the gym to meet my workout buddy for a nice swim followed by happy hour to discuss how we can support each other during our times of struggle on this journey. I did manage to eat my wheat thins on my way to the gym, mostly because I was stuck in traffic for almost an hour. Well, when I finally got there, she was already done with her swim and it was time for happy hour. So, no workout for me.
Happy hour was good though because we talked about all the ways we tend to struggle and sabotage ourselves and ways that each of us can help support the other in our respective times of need. It was actually a great conversation and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy and stuff. I love good friends. They're the best. I've always said that I think good friends are the family that you choose and with my work out buddy, I believe I'm right on the money. I've struggled with other friends fitting into that mold in the past because I usually end up getting shit on by insecure selfish fools. But I'm really so very lucky to have a couple fantastic girl friends that I just love to pieces. You know who you are. Thanks soooo much for being so wonderful BV, TP, and TH.
So, to summarize, no water, no meals, no meditation, no yoga, no exercise, no tracking (yet), no reading (yet), no guitar (yet), no vitamins. I'm planning to do my tracking still, and I've got my ACSM stuff to read today so I'll do that in a minute too. I also really want to practice my guitar today because I've been feeling a little better with it this week and I don't want to interrupt the wonderful progress. :)
Ok. That's enough. Hope you all have a wonderful Friday night.
